Closed Format Cropping

Closed format cropping Is where all the information is provided, People photography, narrative. In other words a cropped photo that still tells the whole , 

Closed Format Cropping is shown in this image. In a way you can see the entire tree and the image does not just focus on the specifics. Closed Format Cropping is used so you can get all information that is provided. 

This image may also falls under the Rule of Thirds because when split into vertical thirds the tree in places in the centre third and that is why it would be the main focus in this image.

Edge Of Frame

Demonstrates the Edge of Frame because the focus of the image is not in the centre, so it draws the eyes away to the bottom of the picture or wherever.Edge of Frame pictures are normally used when the photographer wants to take the focus of the eyes away from the centre and focus on the detail around the frame which would normally get overlooked at just a usual picture that was taken.

This is an example of edge of frame placement. 

The main point of this photo is placed a little out of frame creating a sense of mystery, because the entire subject is not seen. This photo is pretty effective because it uses the combination of strong shapes and effectively directs our eyes straight to the main point. The edge of frame placement creates a sense that the subject and the environment are equal. 

Central Placement

Central Placement is a photograph where the main focus is the centre of your camera/ photo.

This image demonstrates central placement as they have been placed in the middle of the image. Due to the contrast between the colour of the background and the outline of the figures and the sunlight, there is attention instantly drawn to the centre of the image where they have been placed. 

Horizontal Line Photography

In contrast to the effect of vertical lines, horizontal lines can lend a type of lazy, calm feeling to a photograph. They may bring to mind how it feels to lie down and be relaxed. Some examples of using horizontal lines to create a calming mood are to capture long, rolling waves on a shoreline, using the solid line of a fallen tree as a main element; and capturing the peaceful line of an ocean horizon. The calm, relaxed feeling created in all of these scenes can be further enhanced by using a horizontal format.

This photos demonstrates a style of horizontal photography, because  the bricks on the house and the weather boards on the door are all horizontal. The contrast of the red bricks and white door makes it really interesting.

Open Format Cropping Photography

he open format crop is basically any photo where the full subject is not contained within the frame. It can aid in bringing the most attention to the subject matter as it is often the only thing in the frame. It can also create mystery with the viewer not knowing what lay beyond the frame.

This photo was photographed by Blake Cherish, this is a good example of cropping because, the father (or the man holding the baby) is cut out, this shows me that the main focus for the photo is the baby, they don't care about the person holding it or anything to do with the baby they just want the baby, and I thinks that they have really used this cropping technique well.

One To One POV

This was photographed by Danny Santos it is an example of one to one point of view because, The photograph is of a girl who is looking directly into the camera, she appears to be 'one on one' with the photographer. The photo gives a deeper sense of the person, as it shows their expression and often 'one to one' POV will tell the viewer something about the person.

Diagonal Line Photogrpahy

Diagonal lines generally work well to draw the eye of an image’s viewer through the photograph. They create points of interest as they intersect with other lines and often give images depth by suggesting perspective. Diagonals are often used to create a sense of tension, or this can happen naturally as the Tension map illustrates. In addition to this, diagonals can serve the same purposes as horizontal and vertical lines in that they can guide the eye, and act as frames, borders and isolators.

This photo is an example of Horizontal Photography taken by Jared Lim. It really interested me, because most photos of  stadium chairs or concert chairs are normally dead straight (the steps) but in this it is diagonal, and makes it look a lot better and bigger both ways.

Environmental Portrait

An environmental portrait is a portrait executed in the subject's usual environment, such as in their home or workplace, and typically illuminates the subject's life and surroundings. The term is most frequently used of a genre of photography.

By photographing a person in their natural surroundings, it is thought that you will be able to better illuminate their character, and therefore portray  a person in their natural surroundings, the subject will be more at ease, and so be more conducive to expressing themselves, as opposed to in a studio, which can be a rather intimidating and artificial experience.

This girl looks happy, vibrant and very pretty. This is environmental portraiture because it looks like it's portraying her lifestyle surroundings (in a backyard or somewhere around where she lives). When I see this picture it looks like she's just might be playing around in her backyard and having fun, the main thing is the girl but the houses behind have bright colours which give it more of interest and the grass and trees behind also make it look more attractive to us.

I chose another photo, this one because this one confused me a bit. I know he is the main thing in this picture, but he has all these amazing views of mountains upon mountains and I don't really know what to focus on, but the photo does look very appealing, say if your a young person wanting to do this.

Landscape Photography

Landscape photography is intended to show different spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes, especially within contemporary photography. Landscape photographers often attempt to document the space as well as convey an appreciation of the scenery.

I chose this photo, because I really like Ansel Adams and his photos, I find them really interesting. I like this photo because it is in black and white, yes it takes away all the colour but I think it adds a bit of mystery to the photos, like what's behind those mountains? Is that river clear blue, or mucky and brown? Are those bright green or brown and dead.

Fine art photography is photography created in accordance with the vision of the artist as photographer. Fine art photography stands in contrast to representational photography, such as photojournalism, which provides a documentary visual account of specific subjects and events, literally re-presenting objective reality rather than the subjective intent of the photographer; and commercial photography, the primary focus of which is to advertise products or services.

I really like this photo because of all the different colours. Her facial expressions show she is every serious but the outside is colourful and vibrant, all of the different colours give a different though towards the photo. The butterfly also gives a big difference to the photo, it shows gracefulness and peaceful, yet still a strong women.

Pattern Phototgraphy

Pattern photography utilizes elements that are repeated. The repetition of lines, shapes, tones or color can create interesting images. There are photographers who use the pattern as the main subject of an image while others use it to enhance the overall composition and look of the photograph. Photographers can choose to emphasize or break the pattern to capture a great image.

I like this concept of the zebra, the pattern really gives something to the image. Even though black & white are very plane colours they give a very interesting and bold imagery which drags you into the photo, that is the thing I like the most about this photo.

I love this photo. I really like it because its really cute but organised at the same time. You see the pattern with the tea cups with each handle facing the same degree and place as all the others. I chose this photo because, well it has patterns in it but it brought me in, like the photo really interested me because of the different lights and the fact that all of the hamsters are different, colours and patterns.

Birds Eye View

A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the observer were a bird, often used in the making of blueprints, floor plans and maps.

I chose this photo because I love going to the MCG, and watching the footy but from the inside its just a big stadium, but from a birds eye view it's this amazing place where people go to socialise and share their passion all together, and I think that's really special.

This photo is of Melbourne city and I chose this because its the city we live in! I think birds eye view really shows a new aspect to things. It shows the real beauty and the great architecture of things.

Rhythm Photography

Rhythm is the repetition or alternation of elements, often with defined intervals between them.
Rhythm can create a sense of movement, and can establish pattern and texture. There are many
different kinds of rhythm, often defined by the feeling something evokes when viewed.

The reason I chose this photo is because it looks really mysterious, and I felt like there was more to the picture then just looking at it, and that's what it says in the definition "often defined by the feeling something evokes when viewed" and I felt something when I saw this picture, not sure what but I did feel something

I chose this image because I think it fitted into the 'Rhythm' theme perfectly. There are three people on this bus, but so far apart and they are all basically around the same length apart from each other, and shows a sense of pattern in this photo, and to looks really dark and makes you think what are their stories?

Vertical Line Photography

Vertical Line photography is where Vertical lines have the ability to convey a variety of different moods in a photograph ranging from power and strength (think of skyscrapers) to growth (think of trees).

I really like this photo, because the way it has the green and red in it, it is still pretty simple but the effects of the lines and colours make it seem a lot more vibrant. The colours and the way the branches are places in this photo make it really effective visually.

I REALLY love this photo, normally in photos like this the big tall trees are in a night photo and scary but in this one they have changed that kind of 'stereo-type' photo from scary and dark to sunshine and beautiful, I really like how they have changed it and it looks like a nice, fun, happy summer photo, definitely one of my favourites .

Worm Eye Photography

A worm's-eye view is a view of an object from below, as though the observer were a worm; the opposite of a bird's-eye view. A worm's eye view is used commonly for third perspective when you put one vanishing point on top, one on the left, and one on the right.

This photo Is a perfect example of the worms eye-view, you get to see and feel how it is for a worm,  which I think is really cool. The way you can see how the work sees things which is really interesting and this photo is a bit scary, because it feels like his really going to step on me.

I chose this photo because most people have a dog or some sort, and I find it really cool how this is how worms/ants and any sort of bugs see life, they have big soccer/ netball and basketballs flying at you and big animals about to squash you, it is a bit scary the way they have to live life, but amazing how you can capture it and make us feel like we are an actual 'worm'.

Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a "rule of thumb" or guideline which applies to the process of composing visual images such as designs, films, paintings, and photographs.[1] The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.[2] Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centring the subject would.

This photo is a rule of thirds photo, this photo is of a young boy (early 20's maybe) and looks not too happy, but the photo makes it look more interesting with the background as well, it makes you think where is he going? What is he doing?

In this photo, the rule of thirds is used by the puppy being on the left hand side. I really like this photo because it is a really simple photo but the way the puppy is positioned makes the photo look a lot more Interesting because the puppy is the main focus and the grass adds a lot more to it.

Nature Photography

Nature photography refers to a wide range of photography taken outdoors and devoted to displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures. Nature photography tends to put a stronger emphasis on the aesthetic value of the photo than other photography genres, such as photojournalism and documentary photography.

I think these photos fit perfectly under the nature category, they both are taken outdoors and show their living ways (landscape and wild life). 

The image of the cubs shows a true natural scene of their living life, and the way the photo is taken it really drags you in, it really interested me.

Photo Journalism

Photojournalism is a different form of journalism (mostly the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that creates images in order to tell a news story. Photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography (e.g., documentary photography, social documentary photography, street photography or celebrity photography) by both of them having to do with news around our society today.

Portraiture

Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays an expression, personality, and mood of the 'subject'. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person's face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included, the main focus is the face/ facial expression.
