Environmental Portrait

An environmental portrait is a portrait executed in the subject's usual environment, such as in their home or workplace, and typically illuminates the subject's life and surroundings. The term is most frequently used of a genre of photography.

By photographing a person in their natural surroundings, it is thought that you will be able to better illuminate their character, and therefore portray  a person in their natural surroundings, the subject will be more at ease, and so be more conducive to expressing themselves, as opposed to in a studio, which can be a rather intimidating and artificial experience.

This girl looks happy, vibrant and very pretty. This is environmental portraiture because it looks like it's portraying her lifestyle surroundings (in a backyard or somewhere around where she lives). When I see this picture it looks like she's just might be playing around in her backyard and having fun, the main thing is the girl but the houses behind have bright colours which give it more of interest and the grass and trees behind also make it look more attractive to us.

I chose another photo, this one because this one confused me a bit. I know he is the main thing in this picture, but he has all these amazing views of mountains upon mountains and I don't really know what to focus on, but the photo does look very appealing, say if your a young person wanting to do this.

Landscape Photography

Landscape photography is intended to show different spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes, especially within contemporary photography. Landscape photographers often attempt to document the space as well as convey an appreciation of the scenery.

I chose this photo, because I really like Ansel Adams and his photos, I find them really interesting. I like this photo because it is in black and white, yes it takes away all the colour but I think it adds a bit of mystery to the photos, like what's behind those mountains? Is that river clear blue, or mucky and brown? Are those bright green or brown and dead.

Art Photography

Fine art photography is photography created in accordance with the vision of the artist as photographer. Fine art photography stands in contrast to representational photography, such as photojournalism, which provides a documentary visual account of specific subjects and events, literally re-presenting objective reality rather than the subjective intent of the photographer; and commercial photography, the primary focus of which is to advertise products or services.

I really like this photo because of all the different colours. Her facial expressions show she is every serious but the outside is colourful and vibrant, all of the different colours give a different though towards the photo. The butterfly also gives a big difference to the photo, it shows gracefulness and peaceful, yet still a strong women.

Pattern Phototgraphy

Pattern photography utilizes elements that are repeated. The repetition of lines, shapes, tones or color can create interesting images. There are photographers who use the pattern as the main subject of an image while others use it to enhance the overall composition and look of the photograph. Photographers can choose to emphasize or break the pattern to capture a great image.

I like this concept of the zebra, the pattern really gives something to the image. Even though black & white are very plane colours they give a very interesting and bold imagery which drags you into the photo, that is the thing I like the most about this photo.

I love this photo. I really like it because its really cute but organised at the same time. You see the pattern with the tea cups with each handle facing the same degree and place as all the others. I chose this photo because, well it has patterns in it but it brought me in, like the photo really interested me because of the different lights and the fact that all of the hamsters are different, colours and patterns.

Birds Eye View

A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the observer were a bird, often used in the making of blueprints, floor plans and maps.

I chose this photo because I love going to the MCG, and watching the footy but from the inside its just a big stadium, but from a birds eye view it's this amazing place where people go to socialise and share their passion all together, and I think that's really special.

This photo is of Melbourne city and I chose this because its the city we live in! I think birds eye view really shows a new aspect to things. It shows the real beauty and the great architecture of things.

Rhythm Photography

Rhythm is the repetition or alternation of elements, often with defined intervals between them.
Rhythm can create a sense of movement, and can establish pattern and texture. There are many
different kinds of rhythm, often defined by the feeling something evokes when viewed.

The reason I chose this photo is because it looks really mysterious, and I felt like there was more to the picture then just looking at it, and that's what it says in the definition "often defined by the feeling something evokes when viewed" and I felt something when I saw this picture, not sure what but I did feel something

I chose this image because I think it fitted into the 'Rhythm' theme perfectly. There are three people on this bus, but so far apart and they are all basically around the same length apart from each other, and shows a sense of pattern in this photo, and to looks really dark and makes you think what are their stories?

Vertical Line Photography

Vertical Line photography is where Vertical lines have the ability to convey a variety of different moods in a photograph ranging from power and strength (think of skyscrapers) to growth (think of trees).

I really like this photo, because the way it has the green and red in it, it is still pretty simple but the effects of the lines and colours make it seem a lot more vibrant. The colours and the way the branches are places in this photo make it really effective visually.

I REALLY love this photo, normally in photos like this the big tall trees are in a night photo and scary but in this one they have changed that kind of 'stereo-type' photo from scary and dark to sunshine and beautiful, I really like how they have changed it and it looks like a nice, fun, happy summer photo, definitely one of my favourites .
